Deadpool & Wolverine

29-07-24

Finally!!!

I got to see Deadpool on the big screen. I waited for this moment since 2016. EIGHT YEARS. I waited for eight years for this moment. For context, I was 12 when Deadpool hit the theaters and 14 when Deadpool 2 was in theaters. Now, I know Fox released a PG-13 cut of DP2, but it was only for North America.

People might be wondering why this is a big deal for me. If we see the pattern, I would’ve been 18 by the time Deadpool 4 dropped, right? Well, no. You see, there was this amazing deal that was fantastic but abysmal for me because Disney acquired Fox for $71 billion in 2018. It was huge because it meant X-Men and Fantastic Four would be back home. I was over the moon, but the problem was that Disney doesn’t make R-rated movies. And, ding ding, Deadpool is an R-rated character. The whole existence of Deadpool and its biggest USP is that he is R-rated. I killed all my hope and drank it with orange juice until Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman revealed they were making a movie with DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE in it and it would be in the MCU. I had an orgasm, an emotional one that time. Hugh and Ryan restored my trust in humanity.

Well, now let’s talk about the thing I craved for years.

Actual Review

Let’s get this over with

This movie is really good, totally worth it if you don’t care about the story because this movie doesn’t have one. Technically, the events just happen for the sake of it. They tried to make you feel emotions, but sadly, it doesn’t land, even for me, and I was ready to cry before the movie started. The antagonist doesn’t have a motive; she is cute, but yeah, not a good antagonist. This movie is really, really, really good if you sit for just pure entertainment and fun. But if you want a story and emotional bonding with characters, it’s not that good.

Worthy?

Totally, if you crave pure fun and entertainment. It’s a must if you are a pop culture nerd and enthusiast. Even as a casual watcher, you’ll enjoy it if you have some idea of what’s happening. I may sound somewhat biased because I really love Deadpool and Wolverine as characters, but believe me, I am being honest. This movie is pure fun even for a casual watch.

Characters

Technically, only Deadpool and Wolverine are focused on from start to end. All the supporting cast and guest appearances or cameos are really one-sided in nature. Their only purpose is to exist and give us fun in the movie. They lack depth and act like their shells from their past appearances if it’s a cameo, so don’t expect much. But Deadpool and Wolverine gave their best, and you might feel apathy for them if you get past their meta jokes and puns.

Story

Doesn’t have one, sorry.

Does it contribute to the greater MCU?

Technically, yeah, but wait for 2-3 years to actually see the fruition.

End Note

Awesome. I will re-watch it every time I can.
